Summit County requires that all  General Contractors register with the Summit County Building Department.  To register, you must provide proof of general liability insurance (listing the Summit County Building Department as the certificate holder), with minimum coverage of $300,000.

General, mechanical and alternative-energy contractor registrations expire at the end of each calendar year. Electrical and plumbing contractor registrations expire on the expiration date listed on the state licenses.


General Contractor
General contractors are not required to be licensed through the state.  They are, however, required to be registered with the Summit County Building Department.

Electrical Contractor
Electrical contractors are required to be licensed through the state (Masters and Contractors Licenses) as well as registered with us.  There is no Summit County registration fee associated with the electrical trade.

Plumbing Contractor
Plumbing contractors are required to be licensed though the state (Masters and Contractors Licenses) as well as registered with us.  There is no Summit County registration fee associated with the plumbing trade.

Mechanical Contractor
Mechanical contractors are not required to be licensed through the state.  They are, however, required to be registered with the Summit County Building Department.

Fireplace Contractor
Fireplace contractors are not required to be licensed through the state.  They are, however, required to be registered with the Summit County Building Department.

Alternative Energy Contractor
Alternative Energy contractors are required to provide proof of licensure with NABCEP.  They are also required to be registered with the Summit County Building Department.
